About University: Mahatma Gandhi University is a state university established on 2nd October, 1983, on the Mahatma Gandhi’s Birth Anniversary to honour his contribution under the provisions of Act 12 of 1983 by the Government of Kerala. The University started its distance education programme and Online Distance Learning(ODL) from 1989, but later discontinued distance learning in 2015 due to new UGC guidelines. Presently, it is only offering online learning programmes to the students.

The University is located in Kottayam, Kerala, and is recognized by UGC, re-accredited with A++ by NAAC, ranked No. 1 in India by World Young University in 2024, and ranked No. 3 by Asia University Ranking 2024. The University has more than 260+ affiliated institutions, 30 academic schools, 12 departments and 225 research centres.
